After a brief hiatus, the John Paul Wolf Pack has at last returned in time for the jam packed spring season! In the first few weeks since the season has started, much has already transpired. Let’s review the action:
The girls did not let season opening losses to O’Connell and Bishop Sullivan get them down, as they responded in a huge way this past Saturday. The Lady Wolves took down Nansemond Suffolk in a thrilling 13-12, double-overtime victory in the first game of the Steward Invitational Tournament down at Steward. Sophomore Wendy El scored a tying goal with 2.3 seconds remaining in regulation. And in the sudden death double overtime, fellow sophomore Callie Glaser scored the game winning goal. In the championship game a few hours later, the Lady Wolves took home the title by defeating host Steward 14-12! Keep up the work ladies!
On the boy’s side, the season has gotten off to a fast start. In their initial game, the boys defeated Maret and followed with a win over Sidwell Friends. Also participating in the Steward Invitational tournament last Saturday, the boys made quick work of their opponents. In game 1, they defeated Hargrave Military Academy by a resounding score of 24-5. They efficiently followed up that performance by beating Trinity at Meadowview 15-8 to win the championship and complete the sweep at the Steward tournament for John Paul! The Wolves will seek to improve their record to 5-0 tomorrow at Benedictine.
The soccer team has also gotten off to a hot start, going 2-0 in their first pair of games. The first game included a sound 3-1 defeat of Walsingham Academy down in Williamsburg. Last Friday, the Lady Wolves went to nearby Potomac High School and brought home another victory by a score of 1-0. Come out and support your Lady Wolves tomorrow as the take on Wakefield at home at 4:15!
Baseball seems to have righted the ship after a somewhat rocky start. After bad weather marred their practices and subsequently their first game against Trinity Christian, the Wolves have turned things around, winning their last two. Over the four day weekend two weeks ago, the Wolves traveled to Williamsburg on Friday for a game against Walsingham Academy. It ended in a tough defeat for the Wolves. Following that game, the Wolves spent the night in Williamsburg and traveled to Virginia Beach the next day where they split a doubleheader against Bishop Sullivan. Today, the Wolves defeated Episcopal by a score of 12-3!
Softball opened their season with a win against St. Stephens St. Agnes, and take on Seton in their second game this Friday.
Track and Field
The track and field team has yet to compete, but their first meet is this Wednesday at home! Come out and support your Wolves!
Here is to a fantastic spring season!
